Create free ringtones for
your iPhone using only iTunes
and songs you already have on
your computer (This method
only works with songs that are
DRM free. This method has
been tested and works with
iTunes 10.2.2.12 and iPhone
4.3.0 firmware which is the latest.
(Please Note: You can use any
iTunes to create iPhone Ringtones
& works on any iPhone version
with all iOS).
Steps to create custom ringtones using only iTunes:
1) Create a new playlist as per your choice.
2) Drag & drop the song to add the song
to the newly created playlist in your iTunes.
This is how it will look like
3) Go to “Music” under “Library” which
is on the left hand top corner of iTunes
and you will see your song.
4) Now, right click on the song and
choose “create AAC version
5) Once you choose the option “create AAC version”
it will take about 15 – 30 seconds to create a copy
of the song in AAC format.The below given picture
shows how it will appear on your iTunes.
6) Right click the newly created copy
of the song and choose “Get Info”.
7) Choose options, check mark stop time
and change the timer to 40 seconds (0:40).
You can also adjust the volume and choose
the “Equalizer Preset” as per your convenience
and then click OK. (Note: You cannot create
iPhone ringtone more than 40 seconds).
8) Right click on the AAC version
of the song & select “Create AAC
version” again.
9) This time the new AAC version of the
song is created much faster and you
will see that the duration of the
song is changed to 00:40 seconds
& will look like this in your
iTunes.
10) Now choose the second song in the list
and delete it and move to recycle bin as
we do not need it any more.
11) Right click the song with 00:40 second’s
duration and select “Show in Windows Explorer”
or you can manually locate for the file
(Path: C:\Documents and Settings\Rohit Kumar\
My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Music\
Stevie Wonder\My English Collection)
12) You will see the file with
.m4a extension.
13) Go to “Tools” in the explorer
bar; select “Folder Options
as shown below.
14) Once you are in “Folder Options”
click on “View” and uncheck the
option “Hide extensions for known
file types” and click OK. See the
image below.
15) Now, right click on the file
and change the extension from
.m4a to .m4r & click OK.
16) The moment you click ok it will
give you the warning “If you
change a file name extension,
the file may become unusable”
as shown below. Nothing to worry
about, just click OK.
17) The moment you click on yes,
you will see that the file
is changed to “Apple Ringtone Icon”.
18) Double click the “Ringtone Icon”
and it will appear in iTunes under
“Ringtones”.
Congratulations!!! You have created iPhone ringtone for free and that too of your choice.
Now you can Sync your newly created ringtone to your iPhone and enjoy.
